We had clear weather for Friday night, and a choice of sucker holes on Saturday night.  The speakers were interesting, lots of door prizes were given out, and it appears everyone had lots of fun!

Schedule of Events

Friday 29th:

bullet3:00pm until dark - gates open, arrivals
bullet5:00pm-6:30pm - dinner time
bullet7:00pm - Presentation - How to improve performance of your telescope optics� - Dr. Frank Younger, NRC-HIA will help us better understand our telescope optics and how they can be improved.

bullet8:00pm - Door prizes - main prize is an Acuter Spotting Scope, donated by Sky-Watcher. Winners must be in attendance to collect prizes.
bulletAfterward - viewing the night sky till dawn

Saturday 30th:

bullet8-10am - breakfast time
bulletSolar viewing - all day
bullet12 noon - lunch time
bullet1:00 pm - Astronomy Swap Meet
bullet2:00 pm - Presentation - Binocular Astronomy Workshop - Bill Huot - Various approaches to using binocular equipment and viewing techniques.
bullet5:30pm-7:00pm - dinner time
bullet7:30 pm - Presentation & Awards - �Next Generation Virgo Cluster Survey�-  Dr. Laura Ferrarese, NRC-HIA will speak on her most recent research, letting us discover and understand cluster formation
bullet8:30pm - Door prizes - Grand Prize: Celestron SkyScout !! Special Prize for volunteers that help us make this event possible - sign up and win. Winners must be in attendance to collect prizes
bulletAfterward - viewing the night sky till dawn

Sunday 31st:

bullet8:00 am Breakfast
bullet9:30 am Site Cleanup - please pitch in
bullet12 noon - early departures please!

bulletA good sized camping area on the Shotgun Field - camp on the field with your telescope.
bulletLots of parking - both on-field and adjacent parking lot
bulletPower is available on the field for telescope-related equipment only
bulletShowers and Washrooms
bulletLarge Clubhouse (seats 200 people)
bulletFood - Brenda's Kitchen will do the cooking for you.  Very reasonable prices, and the food is great! (Approximately CDN$20-25/day per person for 3 meals)
bulletLarge open field (complete with power on the field for your astronomy equipment)
bulletLarge outdoor covered BBQ grill
bulletAnd last but not least, a good 360 degree view of the dark sky

Directions:

Coming from Victoria … Take Highway 1 North, turn right on Holker Place opposite the Spectacle Lake turn off.

Coming from Duncan� Take Highway 1 South, turn left on Holker Place opposite the Spectacle Lake turn off.
Caution: no left turn lane! If traffic is heavy, turn right on Spectacle Lake Road and double back.
