Feb 8, 2009 2:30pm - Free public lecture "Missions to Mars" by Alain Berinstain, from the Canadian Space Agency at the Bob Wright building auditorium, University of Victoria.
Dr. Alain Berinstain In 2008, the world cheered on the Phoenix Mars Lander as it discovered water ice on the Red Planet and beamed back thousands of pictures of the desolate, wind-swept Martian Arctic. Phoenix was a special mission for Canadians, since it marked the first time that our country landed on the surface of another planet. Phoenix's Canadian weather station provided daily weather reports from Mars throughout the 5-month mission, and stunned scientists by detecting snow falling from the Martian skies. Join Alain Berinstain from the Canadian Space Agency to learn more about Phoenix's exciting discoveries, and how Canada will continue to explore Mars with NASA's 2011 Mars Science Lab mission.
