December 14, 2011 - Cerro Tololo InterAmerican Observatory - Dr. Jim Hesser, Director of the Dominion Astrophysical Observatory

We all know Jim is at the Herzberg Institute of Astrophysics, and is Director of the Dominion Astrophysical Observatory. Jim describes the early days of the Cerro Tololo InterAmerican Observatory in Chile, and the building of the observatory there during politically interesting times (Allende, Pinochet). , The focus of this presentation is on the people who created what is arguably one of the most successful national observatories.
