Don and Elizabeth van Akker are active observers using their 12" Meade LX-200 and Astrophysics 5" aprochomatic telescopes. Don uses a Canon 20Da dSLR and an SBIG XCM400 CCD for his astrophotography and Elizabeth uses a Canon PowerShot SD300. Some of their astrophotos are taken from "Springwater", their place on Salt Spring Island.

I took the attached photo on my way home from work. While it is not an "astro photo" as such, it does relate to the heavens.

M33 - Pinwheel Galaxy - Canon 20D at prime focus on the 12" LX-200.
Trifid Nebula taken Sept 2, 2005 at the RASCALs Star Party. Canon 20D at prime focus on the 12" LX-200, alt-az mount. 6 exposures, 60 sec, ISO 800, stacked in Registar and processed in PhotoShop.
Eagle Nebula taken Aug 6, 2005.  8 exposures, 75 sec, ISO 1600, stacked in Registar and processed in PhotoShop.
Eagle Nebula taken August 2, 2005 from "Springwater", our place on Salt Spring Island.  Canon 20D. 4 images stacked.
M17, Omega Nebula, taken July 1, 2005 at the Island Star Party, Malahat, BC.
