Q2 Comet Machholz, the Hyades & the Pleiades I made another trek to Otter Point last night though there
was light haze when I arrived it was clear enough. Not as good as Monday
however. As Sandy and I discussed, Monday the sky was definitely blacker
inkier.

Jan 5, 2005 - Comet Machholz (C/2004 Q2)
I was out braving the cold and this was one shot. Am I
correct that the comet is at the far middle right of the picture? The street
lights are brutal but still thought I should try...
I took it with my Sony 717 digital @ ISO 400 f/2.5 for 30 seconds.
Thanks for looking (and inspiring),

Q2 Comet Machholz - Ok, ignore the oversaturation in the center but it's
the best I could do with my limited processing skills and software. If I
darken it too much I loose both tails. I took this on Tuesday night out at
Pearson College with my 35mm SLR ISO 400 film 135mm lens 10 minute
exposure tracked but not guided.
I'm sure with better software the raw image could look
better but I'm not there yet. Just though David and Matthew shouldn't be
the only ones doing this.

Q2 Comet Machholz - observed from Bruno's place. I used my LX-90's
tracking, and stacked multiple images at f/6.3 using my Canon Digital
Rebel 300D at prime focus. Still no comet tails visible (even in the
negative image), despite the nice deep image.

Q2 Comet Machholz, Pleiades & Hyades - observed from Bruno's place.
I used my LX-90's tracking, piggybacked my Canon Digital Rebel 300D using
my 18-55 zoom lens and stacked multiple images. Still no comet tails
visible, despite the nice deep image.

Q2 Comet Machholz, the Hyades & the Pleiades Well, Sandy was right
the Comet is definitely worth seeing from Otter Point. What a spectacular
view it was! The Hyades, Comet and the Pleiades formed a beautiful triangle
in the sky. I was finally able to capture one of the tails of the Comet. No
Orion Skyglow LPR filter necessary. Poor positioning of the mount didnt
leave me much wiggle room before the Comet headed for the trees.

Q2 Comet Machholz
Just wanted to share this image of Comet Machholz Roy and I
took in the cold last night with our basic digital camera and small
refractor . This comet is very bright and is easy for all to see with
binoculars. Hope to see some clear sky on the 7th when the comet is right
next to the Pleiades. Could make for some great pics.

Q2 Comet Machholz & the Pleiades
It was quite cold tonight but I couldnt resist getting
out and looking at the Comet. Its getting very close to the Pleiades, not
optimum position yet but you never know if the weather will change for its
closest position. It was right next to the mag 6.88 star HIP 17617.

Q2 Comet Machholz - observed from
Astronomy Caf -
by Bruno Quenneville, Joe Carr (photo
details), David Griffiths, Malcolm Scrimger & Larry Danby.
We all saw a bright core and a rather large blue-green coma, despite the
full Moon. Malcolm thought he saw a bit of a tail.
